Metro Storm Drain Reconstruction

Pioneer designed and provided construction oversight for the Metro Storm Drain Reconstruction in Butte, Montana. Design work was completed in 2003, and construction was completed in 2004. The Metro Storm Drain is a 7,800-foot urban drainage channel that roughly parallels the former Upper Silver Bow Creek drainage.

Design of the Metro Storm Drain involved HEC-RAS modeling of the existing and proposed channels, and design of a channel and hydraulic structures to accommodate base flow and storm flow conditions. Pioneer designed the channel with a meandering, single-thread platform, working within the urban restraints present, and devised a revegetation plan to create a natural setting. Pioneer also designed the channel to accommodate the high intensity storm flows.
