Certified EO April Update: Spotlight on Pioneer
Pioneer Technical Services Aims to #FlattenTheCurve
Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. is an employee-owned environmental science and engineering firm that is a model for how private organizations can contribute to the collective effort to #FlattenTheCurve. Pioneer is based in Butte, Montana, with branch offices throughout the Northwest.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pioneer continues to live up to its reputation of standing ready to develop innovative solutions. As the United States navigates the impacts of stressed supply chains for Personal Protective Equipment, Pioneer has leveraged its resources and engineering expertise to print 3-D reusable hospital masks and face shields known as ‘Montana Masks.’ Employees are all in on the effort– some employees have purchased their own 3-D printers to increase capacity while others are focusing on sewing cloth masks, with over 140 sewn so far. To date, Pioneer has printed approximately 300 masks and 60 face shields and delivered them to surrounding hospitals, a non-profit facility for traumatic brain injury, Butte’s International Heart Institute, and local police and fire departments.
Pioneer’s IT team has also been donating its server processing capabilities to Stanford University’s Folding@home initiative. This donated computer time from users all around the world is aggregated and converted into a virtual “supercomputer” that helps model proteins in diseases such as COVID-19, which can provide insight into how the virus works and create new opportunities for treatments. Pioneer is ranked in the top 3% of all participating teams!
On top of this, Pioneer never fails to recognize and contribute to its local community. The company recently partnered with Papa Murphy’s Pizza to serve pizza to the Butte Rescue Mission, an organization that even during the pandemic is committed to serving the most vulnerable community of people experiencing homelessness . Pioneer believes that simple gestures of bringing business to hard-hit restaurants, and feeding those who feed others, go a long way to helping community morale. As Pioneer proudly states, “we are #ButteStrong but more importantly, we are #CommunityStrong.” Thank you Pioneer for your adaptiveness, innovation, and unwavering commitment to your employees and local communities
